Discussion and text study of West End’s Middah (ethical value/character trait) of the month.
Our Middah study group meets on the third Monday of each month, led by Susan Schorr. All WES members are invited to join our study of a selected Middah of the month. Discussions are text-based using materials from both ours and other spiritual traditions, as well as insights from modern authors, pop culture and more. Texts may range from Talmud to Psychology Today, from Maimonides to Leonard Cohen, from modern-day rabbis to classic Broadway.
Rabbi Dennis Sasso will present his personal 50-year Retrospective of the Reconstructionist Movement and the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College. Rabbi Sasso is a native of Panama and a descendant of Spanish Jews who settled in the Caribbean in the early 16th and 17th centuries.
This longstanding Adult Education group meets on Zoom two Tuesdays a month at 7:30pm to study the Torah in English translation, in depth, considering it from the perspectives of literature, sacred text, religious mythology, family lore, psychology, drama, history, pop culture, and more. Please contact the office for Zoom link.
Our Shabbat Shuva Morning Service will be lay-led. WES services always invite active participation from our congregation, and include both traditional as well as “reconstructed” interpretations of prayer, song, and Torah. Services include a mix of Hebrew (with transliteration provided), with both traditional egalitarian and interpretive translations.
The service will be both in person and on Zoom.
