When we think about gender and Judaism, we often think about women: their changing gender roles over time, their place in Jewish religious practice and leadership, and their public roles in the broader society. But Jewish men have gender too.
The Future is Peace describes how an Israeli and a Palestinian, who both lost family in the Israeli/Palestinian conflict, overcame their bitterness and forged a bond of brotherhood. They joined together to take readers on a week-long journey, proving that peace is not a naive dream but a courageous choice. This is an urgent message about the power to make change.

Prof. Elissa Bemporad of Queens College and the CUNY Graduate Center will discuss how Judaism survived in the Soviet Union. She will describe the Jewish experience at a time when the teaching of all religions was banned to anyone under 18, and what happened to religious practices, cemeteries, religious buildings and more.
