The Reconstructionist approach to ritual is to acknowledge and respect long-standing traditions while being empowered to reconceive and co-create new traditions.
At WES services and events, you will find prayers and songs that may be familiar to you, and you will also find creative approaches to, and reconstructions of, traditional elements of ritual. WES members write new blessings, compose poetic responses to or reflections on prayer, and offer musical compositions all as part of our ritual practices.
Our Reconstructionist approach fuels the way we continue to make centuries-old traditions relevant and meaningful to us today. Together, we create a community in which everyone, regardless of background, can “create their own pathways toward meaningful Jewish living.”
