11:30pm-Midnight - WEST END SYNAGOGUE READS THEIR NAMES
Remember those we lost in the Holocaust by reading out their names on Wednesday night, April 11, at our neighborhood-wide Yom HaShoah observance, held this year at the Society for the Advancement of Judaism, 15 West 86 Street, between Columbus Avenue & Central Park West.
Rabbi Georgette will join other rabbis from across the Upper West Side to begin reading the names of victims from 10:00 pm - 10:30 pm.
From 11:30 pm until midnight, we encourage WES members and friends to attend as each of us takes a turn reading the names of Shoah victims. Twenty congregations will be keeping vigil by reading names throughout the night, until dawn, one congregation at a time; this half-hour is West End's responsibility, and our opportunity, to keep their memories alive. If you have never done this before, it is a quietly moving experience, and one you'll long remember.
The reading of names will continue throughout the next day, on Thursday, April 12, from 9 am - 6 pm, at the Marlene Meyerson JCC Manhattan, 334 Amsterdam Avenue at 76th Street. All are welcome, and Mourner's Kaddish will be recited. Download flyer.
