Children and Families: Our Philosophy
Jewish Family Life and Learning (JFLL) - Grades K through 7
Our innovative, "whole family" approach to Jewish education, Jewish Family Life and Learning (JFLL), is making a big impression on kids and parents alike.
This progressive educational approach encourages learners of all ages to make personal meaning from all our activities, and our JFLL program seeks to synergize classroom learning with a vibrant Jewish family life. Whether watching Hebrew hip-hop videos or playing games on the computer, our students benefit from our commitment to the integration of popular culture and Jewish education. We believe that children's time in our classes and programs must be the equal of their best experiences in secular school and their other extracurricular activities. We want no part of boring classes and humdrum busy work.
Mike Wikes, West End Synagogue's Education Director, is always eager to speak with our current and prospective JFLL families and WES members at large. JFLL Family Shabbat Programming
Our Family Shabbat programming gives parents the opportunity to study as adults and to learn alongside their children. We explore the liturgy of our People to find personal meaning and to understand the customs of Jewish prayer. This year, our learning theme in classes and family education is Middot, Jewish Values, and we are utilizing a variety of innovative learning models to enjoy their study and practice. To learn more, see JFLL Family Shabbat Programming.
