  • No’ar Hadash Reconstructionist Youth Group
No’ar Hadash (“new youth”) promotes and fosters creative, innovative, and fun Jewish youth programming from a uniquely Reconstructionist perspective. In addition to nation-wide events such as the North American Teen Kallah, summer experiences at Camp JRF, wonderful weekend retreats across North America, and the incomparable No'ar Hadash Israel Experience, No'ar Hadash provides vital links to community life right here at WES. Hodesh Hevre
Hodesh Hevre participants set aside one night of the month to hang out over pizza and catch up on each other’s lives, share ideas and plan future community service experiences. This year, WES is pleased to welcome educator Mick Fine, who will help guide the group towards meeting its own self-selected, community service goals. Meetings take place one Tuesday night per month at 6:00pm.

  • “Hodesh Hevre participants…collaborated on a bunch of projects, including cooking up a storm for the elderly at the JCC’s Operation Chicken Soup…Evie Rosenberg reported, “At first, we decided to make a [community service] goal of chai squared, 324 hours. We are still reaching for our goal, and each one of us plans on returning next year to make it. It was nice to be with other teens who care about the same things I care about, and to talk about the problems in our community with them. Through Hodesh Hevre we became more aware of the need for action, and also aware of how much our actions, however small, can help our community.”

    Oral History Project
The innovative Oral History Project is one of the most popular youth programs WES has to offer. OHP participants interview members of the congregation and capture their life stories on film in the form of relaxed conversations. The meetings take place three Tuesday nights per month at 6:00pm.

  • “OHPers interview members of the congregation whom you might have simply waved to before, without knowing that they have lived in South America, partied with Eleanor Roosevelt, or even survived the Holocaust. There’s nothing more rewarding than capturing stories on film that might have never been heard, and that’s the mission at hand. Says long-time member Bea De Baere, “The interviewees, the interviewers, the organizers- we know that we are creating something together, and what we do will be making history come alive for future generations.” Meetings are very relaxed ongoing conversations, and never feel forced or business-like. Sometimes we even run out of time because we just want to keep talking!”

Weekend family living and learning two to three times per month:
