Education Director Sarah Chandler
A Boston native, Sarah Chandler has served as a leader in the Jewish community for
over ten years. Sarah earned her B.A. in Philosophy and Near Eastern and Judaic studies from
Brandeis University. Sarah earned an M.A. in Jewish Education from William Davidson Graduate School
of Jewish Education. More recently she earned a second M.A. in Hebrew Bible from the Graduate School of
the Jewish Theological Seminary.
Before joining the West End Sarah’s took on many roles in Jewish life including:
teaching Hebrew school
and writing curriculum at Congregation Kerem Shalom in Concord and serving on the Jewish education staff of
Camp Eisner for Living Judaism. Sarah also held the position of Program Associate for Learning, Support, and
Outreach at the JCC in Manhattan, served in a part time student pulpit at the B’nai Or Jewish Community of St.
Croix, as a youth educator at Congregation Ansche Chesed, and as a Storyteller at the 92nd Street Y.
Sarah has published articles for MyJewishLearning.com, serves as Senior Editor of Jewschool.com, and
Director of Programming for Zeek: A Jewish Journal of Thought and Culture (Zeek.net). Recently, she has been
an invited presenter at the RENA (Reconstructionist Educators of North America) conference, National Havurah
Institute, the Kehilat Hadar annual Shavuot Retreat, the Teva Learning Center Seminar on Jewish Environmental
Education, and Limmud New York. Additionally, Sarah was an invited faculty member at Camp JRF (Jewish
Reconstructionist Federation).
This year, Sarah’s status an “emerging” young Jewish professional was acknowledged when she was selected as a
fellow in the UJA’s Muehlstein Institute for Jewish Professional Leadership.
Sarah has a special affinity for the environment and has worked as a Jewish environmental educator at the
Teva Learning Center. She infuses her love and knowledge of environmental issues into West End’s educational
programing.
